I am trying to repair a Bose Wave radio. One of the input caps was a total short, so that was replaced. However, it still was not working. I am thinking the radio took a surge that it self protected itself from.
The AC input has two paths. One that goes to a large transformer and the other to a rectifier. The rectifier side is where the large cap had gone south. The transformer side also had damage that I did not see originally.
The path to the transformer has one side with a small inductor. The other side has a thermistor and inductor. The inductors are the same from Toko. I cannot find the exact item as the part number does not show up. It looks like this though:
http://www.toko.co.jp/products/pdf/inductors/8rhb2.pdf I believe the inductors are small as there are not many turns in the coil.
The inductor with the Thermistor is blown. For testing purposes, is it safe to try the circuit a jumper its place? This is just feeding a transformer that has multiple taps. The transformer then services 3 separate rectifier circuits. All of these appear to be working according to the diode tester on my multi-meter.
Is there anything else I should look for in the circuit that could have caused the inductor to let the smoke out?
Thanks
Bill
