Charging LED
« on: October 15, 2020, 02:28:58 pm »
I have an old electronic screwdriver that I've recently converter from Ni–Cd to a Li-Ion battery and had to rewire the internals as well as de-populate the internal charging PCB to accommodate an external Li-Ion charger.

While doing so, I realized that the original charging LED that only lit up when the tool was docked and charging now lights up even when it is not charging and with time, eventually drains the battery flat.

I've already used a diode to drop the voltage that reaches the red LED to around 2.7 V on a fully charged (4.2 V) battery however, I'm not sure how I should add another diode to make it only light up when the tool is charging.

Surely this is an easy fix but I don't have any experience with this.
