Diode part number
« on: February 09, 2016, 10:13:41 pm »
I have a bag of  diodes marked GPD025. I've checked several datasheet sites, and I've come up with nothing. The diodes were made by General Instrument and there is a manufacture date of 2000 on the bag. Does this part number look familiar to anyone? If not, does anyone know who currently owns GI so I can contact the manufacturer and find the datasheet?

What package are they in? Through hole/smt.

Through hole. They came 500 to a bag in ESD shielded bags.

It went GI -> General Semiconductor -> Vishay.

My apologies for the delay in posting pictures. Here they are. One of the packaging and one of the diode. They appear to be marked with the code BD301 or B0301. I need new glasses.

They look like old rectifier diodes but is the code printed on the diode itself, the same as on the bag?

I would hazard a guess that diode possibly is a version of GP02-25 (2.5kV 250mA) in a different package.

Cheers

The code on the diode is different than what's on the bag.

:-[ Ooops yes I missed that bit.

My guess is that the code on the bag is just an internal reference used by the previous owner i.e General Purpose Diodes 25. In other words these diodes are stored in bin number 25 with the general purpose diodes. The actual code on the diode will probably identify it.

It could be an older version of these http://www.onsemi.com/pub_link/Collateral/MBD301-D.PDF I suppose.

Hi crazyjim30,

Did you ever figure out the specs for this diode?  I have several thousand of the same diodes.  The actual diodes are marked B03GI.  the bag is marked GPD025.

Have you tried measuring the forward drop? They look like HV diodes I've seen in HeNe laser power supplies. Those usually have a forward drop of ~5V.

Just a wierd idea - could they come from Germanium Power Devices (GPD) ?
