FAKE GALS: Lattice 16V6D

Seems I got burnt again...

My order of 50 GALs from China (from a supplier that produced real ones before) has yielded 100% fakes..

Nope; it wasn't them.
I'm not actually going to post the seller name as the previous batch I got from them was fine... looks like they have been sold dodgy stuff themselves... I'm working out a refund with them... we shall see...

BTW... The ones that don't work have "Thailand" on the bottom... the ones previously supplied by the same seller that do work are "Phillipines"

However... out of the last batch of 50.... 50 don't work.

Got a full refund in the end.  I guess that's another item that cannot be counted on from China anymore.

To be fair, that looks like the dogiest purchase ever. I don't know how you would ever expect them to be real in the first place.

Why not buy from a reputable supplier instead of the online equivilent to a guy in an alleyway?

Well that's probably fair.... and 16V8 devices are still in standard supply chains so it was purely a cost based gamble.

However... i'm surprised that anyone would bother to go to the effort of faking these cheap devices

As 5V devices become obsolete it becomes more difficult to source them.... there is a window of opportunity where they are still in the supply chain but there is relatively low demand and cheap deals are around... and then they become unobtainium and/or just faked.

In the longer term.... any product needs to be based on current parts otherwise it is not manufacturable... time to move on from the 16V8 methinks.

Really? Even 5 cent ICs are widely counterfeited. Were you born last night?

I think there is still plenty of 5V tolerant today alternatives
