Generic SPI Screen for Coffee Machine
« on: July 31, 2018, 11:04:03 am »
Hey, I need some help. Im trying to make a generic SPI screen work on my old coffee machine as it broke and costs alot to replace it and pretty hard to track down in Australia. So far i have gotten very close. The image appears but is split in half (top and bottom row is in the middle). All the information i have on hacking this machine is here:
https://github.com/OpHaCo/smart_coffee_machine
This is the screen im using:
https://www.adafruit.com/product/250

I have tried Inverting the CS signal, but the screen stops working. Not much more I can think of other than maybe delaying the A0 Pin. Is there something else im missing?

That LCD is likely made by this company:

I suspect the code is expecting an LCD with a slightly different scan direction. If you look at the datasheets some controllers have options to change the scan direction --- this is mainly to ease the COG layout.

It's actually surprising that it works that well, most of these displays have a bunch of initialization commands that have to be sent before it will do anything at all. It's entirely possible that this display requires a slightly different series of commands. Do you have a logic analyzer or bus pirate or something that can sniff the SPI lines to see what's happening?

This seems like an excellent opportunity to try it out. Pay particular attention to the initialization at power up.
