Help with determining LED lens type
« on: November 03, 2021, 10:33:25 pm »
Hi,
I am trying to figure out what the kind of lens which is able to focus a LED die over distance is called.

Some cheap telescopic zoom flashlights have them.

In the video demo for this flashlight, the LED die is focused on the wall:

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

The type that is in the cheapie led flashlight I have just lying around is a "plano-convex" lens.  That is to say, it is flat on one side, convex on the other.

AFAIK all of those flashlights use a fixed reflector and then a moveable plano-convex lens.  That's really all you need for a flashlight, since you're not imaging and don't care all that much about chromatic aberration.
