How multiple users can edit single layout file simultaneously ?

Hi,
    I would like to know how multiple people can work on PCB design simultaneously. And I would like to know how is this tackled in established industries. Please through some light on this topic .

They do not. One person works the board.

Or, if you are the lucky guy at that isn't forced to work with outdated software, there are merging and collaboration features.
