HP/Agilent 34970A with error codes. How to fix?
« on: January 21, 2013, 07:33:49 am »
I got a 34970A with modules 34901A, 34902A and 34907A really cheap.
The problem is the unit gives error codes 742-746.
How can it be recalibrated/fixed?

Ouch. That's the multimeter module.
Is that the full list or are there others ? Hold down the shift button and power up. Keep holding until the machine beeps ( a good 5 seconds ) then let go. That runs the full test ( takes about 30 seconds ).

I have some experience fixing these but the multimeter module is very difficult to fix as the parts are unobtainium... If there are no other errors then those you give then the FRAM is dead.
You can check that by going in the service menu and turning the multimeter off ( or by unplugging the multimeter cable to the motherboard ). If the errors go away then the fram is indeed dead.

A lot of these machines are flogged on ebay with statement 'does not power up' or 'cal errors'. It's a crapshoot.
