IR learner with external photodiode to replace TSOP98260?
« on: June 22, 2023, 04:43:55 pm »
Vishay's TSOP98260 implements "IR learner" functionality, but allows an external photodiode that lets it be used with visible wavelength photodiodes. This unit is EOLed and Vishay has no replacement.  Is there another unit out there that does this?

This is the second topic you’ve started on this topic, and in the first one you haven’t answered the questions someone posed.

I think it’d be better to explain what you’re actually trying to accomplish, instead of chasing down obsolete parts.

I updated the other post with the data I got from Vishay regarding altering the existing units...and they pointed me to the EOL unit.

The goal is to implement opto-acoustic feedback links for simple ranging. I have several choices (25, 32, 40, 48khz) for ultrasonic transducers for the acoustic channels. They fall within the frequency range used by IR remotes. Using an IR learner makes the IR channel easy...an equivalent learner unit for optical lets me add R, G and B just as easily to implement 4 feedback links.  Depending on filter, I may be able to squeeze in an extra IR channel and ultrasonic at 38khz.
