Looking for non-standard SCART connector
« on: February 13, 2023, 11:31:49 am »
Hi,
I am looking for these particular connectors, but I cannot find any source to buy them.
I have tried https://vikiwat.com/product/23281/connector-type-scart-female.en.html but they said they are out of stock, despite there is stock in the website.

Do you know of any sources I can find them, or maybe happen to know the model number?

Thanks

Design it up in CAD and 3D print it.

That's what I've done for missing connectors. Takes a few hours but cheap if you have spare time at work.

It looks a bit like a DVI connector, or just standard 2.54mm pin headers. maybe you could use those.

Then drop it into a 3DP design.

That's impossible, for cost reasons primarily. I need lots of pieces. I am looking for sources around the world or someone that has these, or know their model.

The ebay seller I purchased these 5-6 years ago, said that it was NOS Grundig stock. This does not mean that these are made by Grundig of course. I bought 130 of them, but now it is time to have some more.
Re-designing the PCB is something I would like to avoid, but if there is no other way...
These are good quality connectors , not the cheap crappy China stuff.

Any ideas, anyone, would help.

Many DTV models retained them as analogue source inputs for several generations (up to maybe 1-2 years ago) but I think they are all but extinct on current mainstream models.
Best Regards, Chris

They go into a retro computer project http://cb2.qrp.gr
SCART is one of the best analogue video "formats".

A SCART connector is about twice the size of a DVI connector. :)

When you already have trouble sourcing the connectors, did you also think of the cables?
What are the users going to connect on the other side as TVs with SCART are also out of style.
Afaik retro enthusiasts very much like those studio video monitors, how do they interface - BNC?
Why not repurposing a VGA sub-D connector with the help of a VGA BNC adapter cable?

I've had them in my drawer for years, and they were only recently turfed. I know the size of them, beautifully clunky.

I don't understand why it would be impossible to 3D print some.

There are fabrication places where you can get a run of 130 units at a small run price.

I have designed and printed my own missing connectors in 24-hours or thereabouts. So I don't understand your use of the "impossible" word.

It defies the Engineering process.

Above 3d-printing, how would you get the contacts?

eBay is full of new old stock SCART connectors, but with the key on the opposite side if I'm not mistaken.

It would probably be cheaper to redesign the PCB or put the scart connector on a converter board that sits between the pcb and the scart connector.
Would also give you the opportunity to change some of the other components to surface mount, unless you want to keep it all looking retro (but even back then there were some surface mount components)

This seems to be the correct orientation https://www.ebay.com/itm/155214560906 , but the pins on the back may be the wrong pitch or whatever (but at $1.5 may be worth contacting seller to ask how many he has and maybe to give you better pictures or have him measure the pin spacing)
edit : this seller has actual store in poland, here's same item in their online store : https://slawmir.com.pl/gniazdo-euro-kat-druk-x5-p-895890.html

Scart cables appear to still be readily available at low prices. Plugs for DIY cables also appear to be readily available. It’s weird that the sockets are so hard to find. (I couldn’t find any outside of aliexpress.)

Now we are getting somewhere, thank you very much!
Exactly, these seem to have the orientation used by the KIT, which is reverse (10 pins inside, 11 pins outside). I'll have to check and verify the connections with the multimeter, but they seem to fit onto the PCB.
I have already lots of PCBs left for this one, so as long as they sold, it would be a pitty to throw away and redesign other ones, just because of the connector.
Thanks for the information!

Did you find these particular orange ones on aliexpress or similar (please provide a link if so)?

In a way it’s sad if you think about it: millions of Scart connectors installed, the vast majority of which were not used even once.

No, unfortunately just the common black ones (with opposite orientation from what you need).
