Mosfet Selection Help, Infineon vs Vishay for Similar Values
« on: October 05, 2025, 08:58:12 am »
Hello friends,

For my motor driver design I am in difficulty for selecting the suitable mosfet for 100V range, I am paralelling and eliminated all to 2 model:

IAUMN10S5N016GAUMA1 - Infineon Technologies
https://www.infineon.com/assets/row/public/documents/10/49/infineon-iaumn10s5n016g-datasheet-en.pdf

And
SQJQ112E-T1_GE3 - Vishay
https://www.vishay.com/docs/79384/sqjq112e.pdf

Both are 100V and have similar current ratings, 296A vs. 310A. Vishay is a bit more affordable, but I don't know if it falls behind Infineon in quality or if there are any other significant differences. What do you think?

Infineon is only 220A Id (not 310A). 310A is a chip limitation, but pins and package itself will limit it much faster.

Both current ratings are completely meaningless, so it doesn't really matter.

Calculate maximum actually achievable current from losses (Rds_on and switching losses, latter of which are harder to accurately model) times thermal resistance. Which depends on how heatsinking is done. And maximum ambient temperature.

Look to be roughly similar parts. Infineon has bit lower gate charge and thus easier to drive. Body diode ballpark similar.
Vishay has better avalanche ratings but this could be down to different testing methology.

Vishay also has tons of better forward safe operating area but I suspect it could be unrealistic or they even mixed up milli- and microseconds.
Difference between parts is 200-fold. For motor drive this is probably largely irrelevant except  fault/transition conditions.
