I have come across this type of connector many, many times, but I have no idea what type/name the connector it is.
In this case, the connector is used for the 4-wire fan I'm replacing. I need to order the connector, or preferably a "standard" pre-crimped length that is longer than what is on the old fan I'm replacing.
If you recognize the connector type please let me know, I'd appreciate it.

I concur, looks like picoblade to me. There are some JST connectors that look kinda similar but I actually have a four-pin picoblade right in front of me and that looks pretty much identical.
If you're thinking of making something with them I would just buy pre-terminated wires. My coworkers and I have failed so hard trying to crimp picoblades, even with the super expensive official tool for it.
Thanks! That saved a ridiculous amount of time digging through the billion-and-one varieties of connectors. Now I can finish my retrofit of some decommissioned ancient enterprise network equipment I picked up. The hardware is beefy, but 90dBA max/80dBA idle (per piece of equipment) is a tiny bit too loud for desktop use. Heh.

I've done quite a few picoblade cable assemblies, and yeah they are one of the more challenging connectors to install. The stripping has to be very square, no bits and pieces of uneven insulation. The strip length is very short, stripping it long and using very flush cutters to get a very square end on the wire is needed, and I generally work under a stereo microscope to get the wire in the terminal correctly, and to inspect afterwards. I think digikey sells/sold individual wires terminated with picoblade contacts, along with some harnesses.
Thanks, very good advice.
I found some premade picoblade to picoblade cables on Digikey that are the top of my candidate list. I'll just cut off one end and solder on a full-sized fan header. It would have been nice if the cable was available in lengths long enough to get 2 finished cables per premade unit, but they're only a few bucks each so not a huge loss.
thks i was searching this one too
