Yep, I'd prefer to not use the bloat of Arduino. AVRs are fine, but the Adruino sofware and thier libs are incredibly bulky.

I have nothing against having a bootloader on the micro, but I hope that the community will use C for core implementation. If not, I can make my own firmware

I think the whole point is to make it open source, we can do a basic Audrino version for the hackers and have just a pure C version for the Pros (I doubt many pros would use Audrino)

I am not talking using Audrino PCB's, I am talking Audrino Bootloader and Firmware (so if you want to do it in C, ASM, Basic.... Just plug in ISP or Jtag and play to your heart is content)

I'm not really qualified to answer this as I only know a little about pics from the perspective of Basic programing

Obviously anyone can reprogram the micro anyway they want, but there will be a reference implementation which 95% of the users will use. A hardware design with five half-assed software variants wouldn't be very useful or fun (except for those five people). The language choice for most architectures is C, and for (some) AVR's there's also the C-like language from Arduino (processing?). Or we could do it all in assembly to annoy Dave and make life miserable for anyone trying to port it to another micro .
