In need of Extra small efficient  solar charge controller that can charge 12.    18 650 cells
This project is what I call a solar birdhouse phone charger it currently works but it’s not very efficient it will charge android phones with the sun but it will not charge iPads or iPhones with the sun. I have built in a power bank into the roof of the birdhouse thing it has 12 battery slots for 18 650 battery cells . The solar panels Wired in parallel can put out 6volt at half an amp in full sun I have a A pair of wires coming outside of the birdhouse  From the solar panels  Combined output of both solar panels so I can expand in the future I’m thinking about putting an outlet on the side that you can plug a cord into that would lead to in two more solar panels in some sort of stand thing .

The problem you are having is that you have to have a solar panel that is over an amp to charge a iPad or something similar
This is the first problem

The second problem take a battery bank power supply  pack and use this type of controller to charge your battery on your tablet

The third problem is that you need a static voltage with no load 6 volts or better but not to high unless you charge the battery bank then charge your tablet

I have done this myself and it works for 5 volt @ 1 amp solar panel you use to be able to find them on eBay it been a while sense I have looked for them

Here is one of these type that I was referring to above

https://www.ebay.com/itm/10Pcs-10W-6V-Mini-Solar-Panel-Cell-Power-Module-Battery-Toys-Charger-Light-DIY/402705977849?hash=item5dc32591f9:g:DsUAAOSw4tNgM2a3

Here is another one with higher amperage

https://www.ebay.com/itm/10X-20W-6V-Mini-Solar-Panel-Cell-Power-Module-Battery-Toy-Charger-Light-J/402643780855?_trkparms=aid%3D1110012%26algo%3DSPLICE.SOIPOST%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D231170%26meid%3D01fed577ba5e487cba90863c60c208df%26pid%3D101196%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D12%26mehot%3Dpf%26sd%3D402705977849%26itm%3D402643780855%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D0%26pg%3D2047675%26algv%3DPromotedSellersOtherItemsV2WithMLRv3%26brand%3DUnbranded&_trksid=p2047675.c101196.m2219

One note you do have to test the voltage and current coming out of your solar panel because not all solar panel can put out the amperage and keep it a 5 volts output so you have to do some testing on different solar panels to find one that will give you the best results

The simplest way to do this test is get a wire wound resistor pot 100 to 200 ohm should do an keep lowering the resistance until you have a voltage about 4.95 volts and see what your current output from the solar panel is

But to have a decent charging time you would need to have a least 1 amp or better for best results

I hope this helps you

I do have two solar panels wired in parallel which produces almost an amp . I don’t know what else to say
I plan to put a plug on the side for future expansion as of right now it will charge android phones but it will not charge the iPad via the solar it will charge an android

Can you operate the iPad on this

DC-DC Buck Step Down Module 6-24V 12V/24V to 5V 3A USB Charger Module that you posted

If you can charge your iPad is your current to the iPad over 500 milliamperes if not then you might have the issue that I descriptive below

If not then you need to look at usb pins in the center of the jack do you see any resistors if not then this the reason why it does not want to work

I have have seen some usb charging boards that do not have these resistors on the two terminals are shorted together if this is the case then you have look for charging boards that say that will work on Apple devices

One note do not be tempted to use what called the brand name charging boards that can select the right charging configuration do not trust them I have tried them and they are not reliable devices and you are going to be very disappointed with the results

Like I said earlier if I were doing this project I would get a decent portable battery pack made for cell phone/tablets
and use your  DC-DC Buck Step Down Module 6-24V 12V/24V to 5V 3A USB Charger Module  to charge the batteries and use the on board charging board that came with the battery pack

Now if your panels hook up to the battery pack does the voltage on the solar panels stays below 5.5 volts then you would not need to have the DC-DC Buck Step Down Module 6-24V 12V/24V to 5V 3A USB Charger Module to charge the batteries

You can buy a decent battery pack for about $20.00
