Hi folks,
Some time ago I posted here and there to say that I had taken over QtDMM. I had to pause for a year due to real-life stuff (family and so on), but now I'm back and have modernized QtDMM a lot.
To be upfront: with family and a day job, a project this size wouldn't be doable for me alone, so much of the recent work was done with the help of AI (Claude Code). I set the direction, review the changes and test with my own meters, and the decoders are checked against protocol docs and real captures.
If you want to try it out, there is now a website at
https://qtdmm.de, where you can download it for Linux, Windows and macOS (FreeBSD: build from source), or visit
https://github.com/qtdmm/QtDMM.
I just published version 26.2-rc1.
Here are some key features:
- Supports about 220 meters: UNI-T, Brymen, Voltcraft, APPA, Keysight U12xx, Metex, Victor and many more, over serial, USB-HID cables (UT-D04, UT-D09, ...) and Bluetooth LE (UNI-T UT60BT/UT161, Victron SmartShunt/MPPT).
- "Add device" assistant: tell it how the meter is connected and it searches for it. No meter at hand? Try the simulated meter.
- New UI with digital and analog display, graph, readings table and a Poincaré plot, freely arrangeable, saved as workspaces.
- Recording with every reading timestamped; overload or a silent meter shows as a gap, not as 0. Export to CSV, XLSX and ODS.
- Remote keys for meters that support it (UT60BT, UT61E+ ...): HOLD, RANGE, REL, MIN/MAX directly from the screen.
- Alarms with limits, sound, markers and actions.
- Built-in SCPI server, now also with HiSLIP, so LabVIEW, PyVISA or NI-VISA can use your cheap handheld as an instrument.
- qtdmm-bridge: put a Raspberry Pi next to your meter and read it over the network.
- On Linux it tells you when a port can't be opened due to permissions, and how to fix it.
What's next:
- Real multi-DMM support: several meters in one window, on one time axis, with calculated values across them (e.g. P = U * I).
- SCPI client: QtDMM talks to SCPI instruments itself, e.g. reading bench DMMs or controlling a power supply.
- Report generator: pick graphs, tables and statistics and get a ready-made measurement report.
