I have an idea for use of a Raspberry Pi 2, but it's dependent on being able to get the HDMI output socket on the same plane as the USB and LAN connectors so they can all be exposed on the back panel of the case.
The first idea I can think of is a short HDMI extension, but there are 2 problems with that. Firstly, even the shortest cables I can find are way too long, and secondly, I've not been able to find any extension cables where the socket is panel mounted.
In this project the Pi would be mounted upside down on a larger carrier PCB (which would have all the other electronics I need) via 4 threaded metal spacers, so I can get 5V into it and the GPIO out on the 40 pin header. That would cover everything I need to do except getting video to the outside world.
What I would love, ideally, is a HDMI plug to PCB header that would enable me to connect it directly to my carrier PCB.
I'd only be making about 50 to 100 of these units, so getting something custom made would be too expensive, I expect.
At this point the project is just an idea. I have to work out if it's going to be practical and economically viable.
