Robust "real" pushbuttons?
« on: February 17, 2026, 09:01:08 am »
For a design that will be used in education and display settings, I am looking for suitable pushbuttons -- LED-illuminated, panel-mounted, round.

I don't want to use those "vandalism-proof" sensors without any moving parts; the button should actually move. But it's important that one cannot pull off the actuator, or unscrew the whole button assembly, from the front. That "can't pull out the actuator" requirement is not something that is specified in datasheets or parametric searches, so I am having the hard time finding something suitable.

Has anyone come across a suitable button type? Brand-name products with a decent lifetime spec (100k operating cycles or more) would be preferred. Many thanks for your suggestions!

Have you looked at arcade style push buttons?

I use them for the eduction exhibits I build.  There are various styles, they cannot be disassembled from the front. They incorporate a micro switch.  They take a lot of punishment.

The ones I use come from Suzo Happ. Not sure if that's a good option in your part of ther world, maybe there is a Euro based supplier with something simialar?

EAO 82 series look possible

In the UK we would describe these as vandal resistant or tamper proof

Thank you, some great starting points!

I had not realized that vandal-proof switches were also available with actual push-button mechanisms, like the EAO and E-Switch types that were mentioned. I will look into available variants: I don't need weatherproofing, so maybe there are options which are not stainless steel -- I am aiming for a more restrained and less modern look.

The arcade switches look like a very promising option. I had not thought of these at all, again since I was imagining something more "restrained" and also a bit smaller. But I was half-expecting to make my own 3D-printed actuators anyway (with custom translucent symbols)  -- so I might as well make a smaller replica of the whole mount & plunger mechanism, with a clip for a quality microswitch. I will order a few samples!

How about the Eaton M22 Series. Thats a modular system often used in industrial control panels.
Also APEM has a Range of push-buttons similar to the EAO 82 series.

I'm having a hard time dealing with SuzoHapp. Their online store does not let me put anything into the shopping basket ("please contact your account manager"), even after I created an online account with them. I sent them a message yesterday but have not received a reply. The typical large distributors don't seem to carry their products, and I cannot find distributor info on their website.

Any ideas where I can buy SuzoHapp switches, preferably in Europe? Thanks!

Try Jammastar (in France).
