Rotary Encoder Suggestion Request
« on: December 05, 2021, 08:55:37 pm »

Hi -
I own a Taiwanese made power supply that works well but the 2 rotary encoders for setting the voltage/current limit has a mechanical issue that bothers me.  I want to replace them with something a bit more stout.  The issue that I reference is that there is excess play between the mechanical detents. When wiggling the knob, the knob will deviate maybe 1/2 deg or so.  Maybe my encoders are simply wore out or poor quality.  I am confident that the Bourns PEC12R-4217F-N0024 would be a drop in replacement but am wondering about this 'knob' slop I refer to.  Do encoder vendors specify this parameter?  Does anyone have any suggestion/recommendations regarding this mechanical issue?

thanks
Jim
