Speaker Braid Wire

Hello guys,
I am looking for some braid speaker wire. The wires on the sub that I have are damaged pretty badly.

This is what I am looking for but I don't need a whole meter of it ! Maybe 5 cm would do.

Any reasonable electronics supplier should stock braid that will do the job.

Oh and don't bother wasting your money on audiophool grade oxygen free, gold placted, silver cable. It doesn't make any difference and if you want better conducting cable just use the next size up.

Hand on, on second thoughts you want the wire which connects the cone to the terminals on the basket don't you? Yes only braided cable will do. I don't know whether silver is worth it. You want something light and highly conductive and silver is heavier than copper so it probably cancels out the better conductivity.

Another option might be to find a blown out sub and scavenge the wire from that?

Alright,

I called most places in Ottawa Ontario and nothing. None of them sell braided speaker wire.
I even contacted Alpine, found the company that deals with their spare parts and called them. The guy said  "subwoofers are not serviceable, toss it and buy a new one. We don't sell parts for them."

So I am thinking, can I use solder wick? I mean it's copper and braided... I guess I need to find wick that is relatively pure and doesn't have rosin, flux etc in it.

I don't wanna toss a working sub just because of a piece of wire..

In a pinch you could use the braided shield from coaxial cable like RG174 (small) or RG58 (larger) or even from a USB cable.

That's not really the same thing - the Farnell stuff is for heavy-duty power straps - for speakers you probably want stuff with finer cores for flexibility.

See if you can find a small place that repairs live sound PA speakers or guitar amps - they may have something. Professional PA gear in particular is usually designed to be repairable - I've found replacement tweeter diaphragms for JBLs in the past.

Since I wasn't able to find what I wanted locally and the internet sources required buying a meter of that stuff I decided to cheap out and use solder wick. I will tell u how it goes.

Didn't go so bad.
Definitely the cheapest solution if you don't care about it too much.

The solder wick ripped itself to pieces only after 3-4 days of use.
