Switching power rails
« on: March 02, 2021, 12:07:54 pm »
Hi,
I'm currently designing a small dev board that will have three power sources. They will be the battery, USB, and Vin. The problem is that all of these power sources will be connected to an LDO. The USB and Vin will be able to charge the battery which as I said airlier will also be connected to the LDO. Thanks in advance to anyone that helps  :).

What voltages are the?

Simple diodes can be used to connect multiple power supplies together, with the one with the highest voltage, supplying the current, but there will be a volt drop of at least 0.6V to 0.3V, depending on whether silicon or Schottky diodes are used.

An ideal diode controller IC can be used with a MOSFET, for lower voltage drop.

The voltage range is from around 3V to 5V. So the diodes should cut it, right? The 0.6V drop is not a big deal for me. Thanks for the reply :).
