TOP224Y vs TOP224YN differences ?
« on: October 09, 2014, 07:54:36 pm »
Hi.

Can i use TOP224YN instead of original TOP224Y ? Cant seem to find info on differences... (3terminal offline PWM switch,TOP224Y 75W).
The board i'm trying to repair is very tough on desoldering (big groundplanes, heatsinks etc), so by accident i ripped one of the leads off (facepalm). (then again, maybe i'm just rubbish at this in general...)

Ghrm...

The YN version is ROHS compliant, there are no other differences (I just asked Mouser on your behalf because I was curious).
Should you find yourself in a chronically leaking boat, energy devoted to changing vessels is likely to be more productive than energy devoted to patching leaks.

Thanks.

I'm having trouble locating analogues to parts that are end of life.
Any databases i could consult ?

What does the TOP224YN do? I have a Miele Coffee machine and the electronic board has one of these that has split and cracked in half. The machine no longer powers up so I thought I might be able to replace this? There seems to be a residual voltage left through here from the capacitor.

P.S. I am a complete novice.

It's combined switched mode power supply controller and switch

https://www.mouser.com/datasheet/2/328/top221-227-1512604.pdf

Probably not the best thing to learn on, as there is no isolation and a few hundred volts on the primary circuit.

Attached is a picture of the blown switch. What could cause that?

Seems a lot of these all in one SMPS controllers in appliances are known to just go bang. Still, check for shorted parts and bad caps.
