USB type B socket, centre colour
« on: February 03, 2014, 12:25:45 pm »
Anybody know if their is a difference between USB type B sockets with a white(cream) insert and a black insert? Does the colour signify anything?

Nothing, the usb standard doesn't mention that and a different color plastic doesn't make any difference.

as Fabiusp98 said, there is no difference physically.  However, note that in the two you linked to, the black ones have gold plated contacts and the white/cream ones have tin plated contacts.  Not only that, the gold plated ones cost less...  :-+

However... the datasheet doesn't say that, so it may be a mistake on the Farnell page, and they are both tin plated :)

Pretty sure they're both gold plated.

These certainly are, though: http://uk.farnell.com/te-connectivity-amp/292304-1/usb-type-b-tht-connector-4p/dp/1076665

Fabiusp98: I thought it might be so - it seemed quicker to post here than read the standard (I did read it once, many moons ago).

codeboy2k: yeah, I noticed that to, perhaps it's just a supply/demand thing.

Monkeh: Actually that's the part in my inventory!
