And there is a weird one with someone taking some boxes from some ones front door?!

The perils of living in a large city... He stole an $80 honeycomb egg crate for my laser cutter  >:( Worth $2 in scrap...

Is the speed of the SPI down to the peripheral itself and the clock it uses or down to the SD card speed?

It's basically down to the raw speed of the SD card in SPI mode and how fast your on-chip SPI overhead is for each 8 or 16 bit read. You might find some SD cards which are faster but SPI mode is definitely not the primary mode SD cards are optimized for these days which is usually the 4-bit transfer mode and much more complicated.

I am wondering if I can unpack it to the raw format and send it directly to the screen it will speed things up somewhat?  Not sure if it is enough though.

Yes, that's what I did. If you can pre-interleave/format the data that's ideal. More importantly: I am not using a file system at all. I am just dd'ing the raw video data directly on the SD card and then reading sector by sector in sequence on the MCU. These are 512 bytes chunks which is the native sector size of SD cards. It yields the best read performance. That way you don't have any overhead of dealing with FAT16/32 which also cuts down on code size.

Good luck, it's definitely fun to play with this stuff!

That's a pain in the arse when someone steals your stuff! Amazon have a habit of using delivery companies that just leave stuff, others will take it back to their depo and you have to collect it, much better as it means someone won't steal it!

Yeah, I am already having fun! lol, thanks for the info btw!

If I wanted a plate like the radiator one I would just wait for the next time I change a condenser coil. One side is always in good condition, while the other layer is just bare piping. As a plus you still get a good price for it as scrap when it is worn out.

Eh?
The discussion has veered off into the topic of stolen shipments.  I have had more than one shipment disappear off my front porch while I was at the office.   >:(
And then the discussion veered again into alternatives for radiators and condensers.  Nothing to do with video players.

I'm guessing SeanB responded to the wrong thread?
