What is this flexible component?

Hi guys,

In many smartphones, as part of the NFC antenna (at least, I guess that this is the NFC antenna), there is a flexible extension.
Does anyone know what this is and what its purpose is? Maybe this is irrelevant to the NFC and is something like an EMC shield?

Could it be a ferrite foil, meant to optimize functionality of the NFC antenna?

Google for ferrite foil it looks very simiral material. I am wondering though why it extends beyond the NFC antenna down to the battery
