Wind and PV charge controller project, best way to skin it?

Afternoon All

I'm currently in the planning process of designing a PV and wind source battery charger.  Its a low input power concept, the PV is 40-50w and the wind will be via an alternator capped at 10 amps all charging a 12v battery . First ever "project", in experience would it be best to build individual PWM controllers for both sources and take them both to the battery?

Any help would be appreciated.
