The air pump in my Hakko FR-803 (230VAC) Hot Air station decided to call it quits.
The yoke, part that holds the two magnets between the coils and connects to the two air pump diaphragms, broke into pieces.
At the same time one of the diaphragms screws came loose and managed to hit just about every part of the pump chamber.
I was not able to find a model number for the pump or any rebuild kits but searching eBay I found the ActiveAQUA AADAP25L
that looked close to the original Hakko pump so after some additional research I bought one from the US...115VAC.
The pump has two coils inside that act as electromagnets alternating the magnetic field and moving two magnets in a plastic
yoke that are coupled to each of the two diaphragms.
The replacement pump being 115VAC I thought the two internal coils were connected in parallel and I would just have to connect
them in series same as the original coils but turns out the coils in the 115VAC pump are connected in series already.
Luckily the coils in the original pump were good and the same physical dimensions as the 115V coils so I was able to transplant
the original coils into the replacement pump.
The differences between the original and the replacement pump, as I saw them, are:
- The plastic yoke that holds the two permanent magnets is a bit thinner in the replacement pump and so are the magnets
- The diaphragm pumps are a bit smaller in the replacement pump so the end pumps are not interchangeable.
- The replacement pump housing is made from 0.5 mm thinner casting than the original and it is also about 3-5 mm shorter in height.
- The replacement pump does not come with the air storage reservoir that's attached to the original but the air outlet connections
are the same size and the air storage reservoir can be transferred from the original pump to the replacement.
The replacement pump was about $100 with shipping from the US to Europe and a replacement Hakko FR-803 would have been
over $500 so to me it was worth repairing it.
Air flow is the same as the original pump...0 to 25L/min.
