Help me identify this transistor
« on: March 20, 2015, 07:27:37 pm »
Hello,

A transistor started smoking due to a short on a car battery boost device and I would like to know what the specs are and where to buy a replacement from.

I've attached a picture of the component and there is sign of physical damage due to overheating.

Cheers!

Just my 2-cents, but with the middle pin cut like that, it was probably a diode... I've got several like that.

I'm am electronics noob so you might be right. There are three of them soldered next to each other on a plate of copper. Maybe some input protection diodes?

It reads T460 on the top and BV0T1A below that but I have no clue what it is and if the other two are defective or not.

Try Alpha & Omega Semiconductor  AOT 460.   N-Channel Mosfet.

Seems right, but why would you cut off the drain?

Because it is connected to the metal of course...
