HiFiEngine.com - deleting accounts again, how's it going!!!
« on: November 19, 2023, 10:05:33 pm »
I had an account on hifiengine.com
I didn't do anything that would be inconsistent with the regulations of this stupid website (or maybe stupid administrator), I even uploaded the Service Manual files, and suddenly, surprise, the account was deleted!
I have reports from people (from another forum) that a lot of accounts have been deleted!
What's going on here? WTF?
Does the administrator of this website think that these files are brought by the stork?

Please report here from which regions of the world the account was deleted and who still has it?
Maybe we'll learn the "rules" for deleting accounts!

PS
Of course, there is no contact, I will say it's the worst website with the stupidest rules, We delete accounts because of that and what are you going to do to us? Stupidity of the highest order.

If three 100  Ohm resistors are connected in parallel, and in series with a 200 Ohm resistor, how many resistors do you have?

Mine survived in France, a few days ago I noticed a disturbance in the force, the website was all fooked-up and not allowing to log in or download.

I did have an account in 2014, it hasn't worked for some years, just states username or email not recognised. Also not accepting new users, very strange website, glad I have very little interest in HiFi stuff.  :blah:

Can someone with an active account (non-active ones have no possibility of contact) write to the "Website Manager" about what's going on?  :palm:

they also deleted my account for no reason... Poland... the link you provided to the contact is useless because you can't write to them without providing a login active on the server

You don't have an account, you won't be able to send the message!  :palm: :scared:

This means that if the account has been deleted you cannot contact us!

It's in the repair section because it concerns repairs.
But it "used to be" a cool website where everything was in one place, and people used to post a lot of documentation there, and now they just got kicked in the ass. And without a word as to why.
This is just extreme rudeness.

Such websites should be stigmatized

I've had no issue with the site, apart from running into the download limit occasionally as I repair a lot of equipment.

My account is still alive, thankfully. I remember similar stories in the past, and checking that mine still worked.

It upsets me to read about the neglect of this resource. I have contributed manuals to this site in the past, so I'm not just a user.

I wonder if it is possible to contact this administrator?
And ask him what he means?

Deleting accounts is done either randomly or according to some "regulation"

I seriously doubt this is the actual reason of the account being deleted. But be aware that in the very first post you admitted to violating the policies:
Quote
The following constitute violations of acceptable use:
(…)
f. Copyright or trademark infringement. (…)
So, formally speaking, they have a valid reason.

While I’m not in contact with service’s operators, I can guess two other options:
  • You account has been taken over and used to abuse the service. I don’t know anything about your case, so don’t take this personally or as me judging you specifically: but in general people don’t care about basic security or privacy hygiene, and this service sounds like a good target. The scenario sounds plausible.
  • Well-intended, but poorly executed administration. Some people are just “jerks”, but usually Hanlon’s razor explains the situation better. Understanding complex topics is hard and, when facing a threat situation, humans are even worse at being reasonable. It’s a widespread problem of people, meaning well, unjustly (over-)block. Misunderstanding the problem, poorly supported heuristics, biases, stress, lack of self-moderation. And voila, 20 accounts gets nuked, because somewhere in history they share IP address in the same /24 range as 3 abusive accounts. Or your packets are blackholed, because your IP address is related to the Tor network. Or you get 403, because “Linux is used by ‘hackers’.”
The above is written from a perspective of a former chef admin/dev of a major forum (10 yr) and admin/mod of multiple small services, who himself is not without a sin. Experience and understanding come with time.

When "Mr. Administrator" deletes accounts, he should explain it at least a little bit.
Sorry, I deleted xxx accounts because this and that ...
You know that even on "Polska Elektroda" (local national electronics forum) no one will delete your account "just because"
And here is the deletion of accounts, as it goes (probably) from the IP range xxx.xxx. there was something wrong, we delete everyone, no matter if he had an account from yesterday or 10 years, and he uploaded hundreds of documents.
Sorry, this is just "rudeness".

And as I wrote, it wouldn't be a "significant" problem if these were isolated cases, just bad luck, OK. Although some information would be useful, I think it is required by the proverbial "net etiquette" that is so often used.
But here we have a sharp cut, I don't know how many accounts were deleted - 1/2 or 1/3, and that already means something.  :palm:

What would you say if Dave suddenly deleted 1/3 of the accounts here without any reason (at least not giving a reason)?  :box:
