How old is this SRAM?
« on: July 04, 2015, 08:45:03 am »
Hello,
I recently bought an old machine. I saw that there is an SRAM with internal battery in it. Can anyone tell me how old this one is? And how long the battery typically lasts (data sheet: min. 10 years)?

Chip:
DALLAS
DS1225Y - 150
NONVOLATILVE SRAM
0331S 336959
PHILIPPINES

Thanks!

0331 could mean 2003, calendar week 31.

That's the format according to the data sheet, the life is from the date of manufacture. I guess the true state of the battery depends a lot on how long the equipment has been powered off.

They're still available, not especially cheap though.

Okay thanks! Costs are not an issue. The man where I bought the machine lost the data once. It cost him about 3000 Euro to get the data and a new chip, because no body cares about this device anymore, its simply too old.

If it really is non-volatile, then it might be possible that the battery is connected to something else.  FWIW, Maxim's version of the DS1225Y says data can persist for 10 years unpowered.

Maintain your old electronics!  If you don't preserve it, it could be lost forever!
