Power Supply wont turn on
« on: January 30, 2016, 05:42:18 am »
Hi,

I pulled a power supply from an old TV, its capable of delivering a few amps supply so thought I could use it as a secondary bench supply.

Problem is is doesnt turn on unless it receives a signal to do so, its microcontroller controlled.

Just wondering if there is a common way these are activated?

Attachment is the board if it helps.

Thanks

On the connector to the main board, look for a pin labelled PS_ON.  It usually needs to be > 3V in order for the power supply to come on.  You can trying tying a 1k ohm resistor between 5V standby to PS_ON.

If this is an older plasma TV power supply, you may need more than just PS_ON.

Thanks for the response.  Unfortunately I dont have the main board any more.  Is there a way to work out which pin it might have been?  I could always just try each one with the 5v standby voltage and see what happens.

That wouldn't be a good idea, you could short something important. I would look up pinouts online.
