Replace a BGA with a PCB
« on: July 16, 2022, 11:56:02 am »
A friend of mine have a HP Server Gen8 and it have a known problem, an EMMC fails due to some sort of bug in the firmware.

He want to replace it but if the issue shows up again its a PITA to replce the chip each time.

I was thinking if creating an dapter PCB with the same layout of a the BGA and than use a off the shelf emmc module would be possible:

So far i've only seen such tecnique in smarthphones Mainboard.

Do you think it would be possible?
The important thing is to get involved, and don't give up.

as long as all the pins/balls are connected to the correct pad it would work. But probably not an easy mod.
