[SOLVED]R&S cmu200 HDD image file wanted.
« on: October 21, 2021, 02:22:57 pm »
Hello. I have cmu200 with corrupted HDD drive. It is full of bad sectors. At startup I get error message on picture. Can someone upload disk image or point me where to find instalation files for fresh install. I made a copy of disk and save 97% of files.

Sebastijan.

I have some files (the installers) at http://gotroot.ca/cmu200/ . If you can put them on a PCMCIA/CF card and boot into the built-in upgrader and install them, you should be able to restore all the applications this way, I think. I don't have an easy way to get a disk image for you at the moment.

Can you upload your files so that we can compare them against the files in the installers? Perhaps the solution is to repair the damaged files, preferably on a clone HDD.

Hello.
I uploaded files that I can manage to copy from HDD.

When I got this cmu system halt's on rohde & schwarz welcome screen. When I clone HDD and repair it with scandisc I came to error on picture. I don't know if this is SW or HW error. So idea is to copy image file if somebody will share with me.

I ordered PCMCIA to CF adapter for upgrade, but it will arrive in next week.

My files:

https://www.mediafire.com/file/6hfzl76u0tstoia/Cmu_back.rar/file

P.S. Anyone know why model and serial number is not listed? Or it comes later in boot sequence?

How did you clone the drive? Ideally you would use a tool such as ddrescue or HDDSuperClone. These tools keep a log of unreadable sectors, and you can then use this log to determine which files were affected. Alternatively you could fill each bad sector with a test pattern (eg BAD!BAD!...) and then search for this pattern in your recovered files.

I have CRTU and when I got it I made a copy of the disk using clonezilla. And I have the same flag as OP. PM me if you think CRTU image helps. AFAIK DOS software is the same for CMU200 and CRTU.

AFAICT, stuc.cpp is a C++ source file. It does not exist in your file dump, but it is referenced in file "CMU\BIN_V5.00\BASE\FSW\1\CMUDRV.DL0".

I think that "BaseDiscoverOptionsBegin" mean that system checking installed HW. But in my case I don't get serial and model number. So where is this data stored?
"feldent" = NULL this in german mean "field".
I have ni idea with c++ can you tell me what this stuc file is lookin for.

Open it with a hex editor, eg HxD (freeware).

Have you executed the self test? ISTM that the boot process involves the identification of each of the installed PCBs/modules. AFAICT, each module has an EEPROM. Maybe the EEPROM on the RF Frontend has a problem???

I think that this stuc file create a log file in "stuc.cpp C:\INTERNAL\LOG\TOOLS \*.Y00". But files are date related. So I must correct date in bios and reboot cmu. Anyway I am going to sleep. Cmu must wait.

No I did not do this test, Only acesseble sw is version installer.

Fzabkar you are the man.
I was so frustrated with bad sectors on HDD, that didn't think out of the box. Now I remember that fan on this module is not spinning... I thought that is maybe temp. controlled.

Oh god what I bought.  :palm:
First I want to check connection between frontend and MB. WTF, where is flat cable? |O
O.k. I found suitable cable and restore connection. Power up cmu and booting pass through stuc error. Serial and model number is showing.
YES and then
1306181-0
and
1306187-1

O.k. I boot to version manager and select options:
-clear nvram
-flash when board is changed

Same errors.
Then I was again boot to version manager and install older SW.
It looks o.k. Booting finish and all looks good.

After that I again change SW version to 5.00 and same errors appear. So What is this "overlay.c" related.
Ok, I was again downgrade version to 4.0 and looks all o.k.
I run self tests and all pass exept RF loop. (internal and external).
It is look like RF1 and RF2 ports are busted. But let this for later.

What do you think is to do. Try to upgrade to latest ver. or I leave 4.0.

It doesn't help me, but I found this in BIN_V5.00\BASE\BSW\EXE\BASE.EXE:

According to the service manual, there is a "Lithium battery in FRONT MODULE". I expect that this would provide power for the non-volatile RAM.

"GE 3.0V 230MAH LI-MNO2 LITHIUM BATTERY CR2032"

"EB 3.6V 1.00AH LI-SOCL2 LITHIUM THIONYL CHLORIDE BATTERY"

Edit:

ISTM that the CMU200 is unable to load one if its DLL files. To this end I have listed all the DLLs for the two firmware versions.

Do you have a log file for your Clonezilla session?

Hi.
No I don't have a log file, but I have original HDD and I have one IDE SSD disk (8Gb). I can try to make clone with Clonezilla to this disk.
Your plan is to see on which file bad sectors are affected. Am I wright? :-//

I confess that I'm only guessing as to the real cause of your problems.

I would suggest that HDDSuperClone is a better tool than Clonezilla. It can save a log file and fill bad sectors with a chosen pattern. It has a LiveCD and a GUI.

In any case, if the problem is a version 5.0 DLL file, then I would expect that a firmware update should fix this. ICBW, though.

What does "out of virtual memory"mean.
That LoadDll cannot be loaded because is corrupted or really not enough memory. If I remember correct in DOS for virtual (extended) memory was himem.sys
I will check autoexec.bat and config.sys under both versions.

When I think of virtual memory, I think of swap space on a hard drive.

DOS used extended or expanded memory to access memory above the 1MB limit. Himem.sys was able to access the first 64KB memory segment above 1MB, IIRC.
