Anyone recognise this 2mm machine tool?
« on: February 06, 2014, 01:40:42 am »
Hi guys,

A few years ago I bought a few tools from a PCB manufacturer which was liquidating (via a friend). In the lot were these things. They look almost like endmills, but I don't think they are...

Does anyone know what they are? Outside diameter of the tool is about 2mm.

Thanks,
Phil.

They are roughing cutters, used to remove a lot of material quickly when you don't care about surface finish

It also looks like they are flat on top, is this correct? If so they are almost certainly endmills for side entry, rather than for drilling.

They look similar to some PCB routing bits I have:

Thanks for that - I've had a bit of a dig through the rest of the box and found a Kemmer Prasizion label on another (empty) box -- for a 2mm router bit. Looked up the part number, and found a photo of these things staring back at me :D

So that's what they are -- PCB router bits, intended for edge routing on FR4.
