Aoyue 2702/2703A+ Solder station not working too well....
« on: October 09, 2013, 01:58:10 am »
Has anyone else here had experience with a  Aoyue 2702/3A+ Solder stations?

I am on my second one, the first one nearly melted the iron tip before smoke came outta the back of the control unit, the second worked for about an hour before the same thing happened.

I'm getting ready to get a 3rd, but figured just might let it go back....

I've got 3 of these aoyue stations here...they all seem to be OK (They are not a Hakko or Weller, but they do OK)...Well at least they dont blow plumes of smoke out the back (dramatization ;)).

I do like the recovery time on them....when it works.

Sounds like a bad batch.
If you do get a 3rd maybe try a different supplier
Greek letter 'Psi' (not Pounds per Square Inch)

Given the quality options here in the US for reasonable costs, is there a particular reason for using that station instead of a good quality iron (station)?

I get using lower cost alternatives on hot air and desoldering if you want one of these as well, but since most of use spend the most time using an iron, it seems to me you'll have better luck going with one of the lower cost, quality irons instead (i.e. Hakko FX-888D or even Weller WES51).

Welp, I just bought it for the de-soldering gun. The rest of the stuff is a bonus. If it'd just work.....

Return it for a good working one, and still get a good separate station (iron).

That way, you'll have a working iron to fix which ever one's broken.  :o   :-DD

hahaha, well in this case something has gone really wrong; some traces are burnt on one of the boards, around an area marked "24V" which seems to have a blown fuse as well.

I have plenty of irons and whatnot around here, but nothing that can fix this! :).

at least my old de-soldering station is still up and going for the time being. I'm probably just going to send it back and get a hakko 472D.

Ouch! It really did decide to bite the dust...  >:D

BTW, ever taken a look at a Hakko 808?

I think I did come by the 808, looks interesting for the price.

I liked the idea of how compact the Aoyue's gun was, but if it doesn't work it doesn't work ;P.

It's worth opening them up before plugging in, you might've caught something wrong before it was too late.
