JTAG clones using FT2232HL and co (like Olimex's USBJTAG)
« on: November 13, 2021, 01:33:12 pm »
Hi,

I've been looking at FT2232HL based "multi" interface boards. I want something I can use for modern ARM systems but also older systems like PXA255. I've been considering the Olimex USBJTAG because it has OpenOCD support out of the box and the projects I need to rely on have configuration files for OpenOCD and that specific JTAG interface.

However, I have also found FT2232HL boards in our "beloved" Aliexpress... they seem to carry an empty EEPROM though. Can these be used with OpenOCD? Do I need to flash the eeprom with something specific?

It seems like a gamble for a 50% measly savings +/- and the lack of a proper warranty, but AFAIK, Olimex's JTAG is also based on the FT2232 family.
