KSGER 2.1S Solder station Capacitor question - Temp rating
« on: July 13, 2021, 03:25:16 pm »
Hi all,

I have a spare power supply board and want to replace the three main caps.  The 400V 82uf and the two 1000uf 35v caps.  I have a Nichicon 400V 82uf cap at 105C (o issue with these) and two Rubycon caps at 1000uf 35v, however, these two are 85C caps.  The ones on the board (even though junk caps) are rated at 105C.  Could I use the 85C Rubycons in this unit?

Thanks for any insight.

It should be OK. I suspect the Rubycons will have a longer rated life than whatever was in circuit before anyway.

I would worry if my station gets to 85ºC.
The 105ºC versions are more rugged, but 85ºC caps shouldn't be a problem in this application.

Thanks everyone.  I was going to use them but then someone on the bad caps forum said they would be hesitant to use them because they have no ESR rating and that is important in this power supply?  The part number from Digikey is 35PK1000MEFCCE10X20.

I still would think it would be better than the Cheng-X ones in the power supply currently.....

My current KSGER 2.1S has these in them:  https://www.ebay.com/itm/283799940916
(JCCON (Sanyo) 1000uf 35V 105C Low ESR.)  I have a few extra.  Maybe stick with these?  The stock is those Cheng-X ones.

Turns out Panasonic makes an FS series that has all the right specs.  I may grab some and check them out.  Thanks all for your time.

i used the nichi's in mine to replace the couple bad ones i had. then i went ahead and just replaced all of the ones i had in the ksger's (i have a 5 of them in use in different places where i dont care much if one gets damaged or stolen etc where i would be very upset if one of my more expensive stations were) 105 is prob overkill but why not lol. i did however solder in a few ruby's for a friend when his station had them go bad (ksger 2.1) and he has had it in use for a couple years now with no issues at all those were 85C. i did the heatsink mod on his also and grounded it.
