wondering if anybody already got it, would be nice to hear some impression...

PS: seems like the voice commands are a feature that once you tried you can't go back anymore...

If you can just say "two fifty" and it changes to 250C... maybe see it being usable for some people. But my guess is it won't be that simple.

At least they put dedicated CH1/CH2/CH3 presets on the front, those are actually useful to have. The TR1300A did not have those for some reason.

There is a full list of supported commands (6 full pages). I don't know if it would understand anything else. To set 250, you would have to say "Temperature to Two Five Zero". It looks like a pretty basic voice recognition, not the modern "AI".

I don't see this being useful in a shared lab or production environment.

No doubt, this is why you can deactivate the  "AI"    voice recognition.
I am alone in the lab.... so no issue here.

In my little experience with hot air gun, there is no point to set a precise temp.
The main work is to  adjust the gun distance and heating time by the user hand.

It is always safer to start from a lower temp, this is why a need 1 or 2 iterations by bumping the temp up to get it right.
Don't get me wrong, the more experience you have the quicker you are as always.

Anyway if I could just say something instead to press a button (by look somewhere else and/or by interrupting the soldering job) I imagine it could be very practical.
This is all in my speculations, this is why I started this thread to get a real life feedback...

  2) When cooling is activated does the unit actively ramp down the temperature so to minimize
      thermal stress (i.e. something like 4 degrees C per second) or does it just completely turn
     off the heater and depend on the thermal mass of the heater to provide a "ramp")?

  3) Do nearby lights flicker or does the unit have a sufficient filter?

PS: No interest in voice recognition ... turning it off will probably be the first setting I change.

If you are doing the same big chip reballing over and over again, I think maybe yes.
For normal every day use, not so sure.

Does it make a big difference in the heater life time?
IMHO the big point is to take the energy out when the heater is off, so it will not "cook off" with no air flow and degrade.
Also in your proposal, the cooling time will take much longer... don't know if I want that.

I hope the EMI filter is enough, if not it should be an easy upgrade.

I was in your position, now I'm not so sure anymore. I will give it a try and report back.

ah,

I normally do it manually by slowly increasing the distance between the gun and the board... but I rarely do that... if you need something more reproducible/controlled I would try to run a profile in furnace mode.

My guess is turn off and cool as fast as possible, anyway I will try of the cooling function and report back...

well a colossal failure.

The unit arrived is in chinese, everything. I can't use the voice commands.
the included paper manual is in chinese, don't know how to change the language setting.
According to the english manual online, there is no language setting.
I started the return process.

Otherwise, it looks very good!

I will not learn mandarin ah ah.... the unit also refused to turn on the voice command mode. I tried to activate them but I only got an error message in mandarin, which translated meant function not available.
Tomorrow it will go back to china...

Soo a secret combo key to change language? Can't be true...

First impressions

pros:
1) build quality is excellent
2) the user interface is very sexy
3) seems powerful and silent but did not play with it too much...

cons (apart for the language cluster fuuu):
1) the nozzle cable length is about 10-8mm SHORTER than my 861DW. WTF.
2) if you press the wrong arrow button, the unit jumps immediately in an unwanted function... and I went to panic mode to turn it off...
Sooo some learning curve is necessary to ride such a horse.

PS: I am the only one who would like a 10cm/20cm longer nozzle cable length?

Interesting device, I could not see it on the Quick Global website, so it does sound like it may be a region-specific product, maybe sold by mistake : (

I have the quite similar-looking TR1300A (same case shape with the ears, but with a monochrome display EDIT just noticed it is color, but mostly just black text on white), I really like it, one of the best tool purchases for me for a while. I can imagine that the unit you have is also very high-performance, except for the voice language issue : (

EDIT: Incidentally, regarding hose length/ease-of-use, I found it better when the hot air station was raised off the desk, it just curves better to reach the pre-heater. I used a speaker stand. Another nice benefit; it frees up some desk space, since in terms of size as well as performance, the unit is a beast..

Regarding region availability I'll note that TEquipment was happy to quote me a price.
It seems clear given the manual available from Union Repair and the various short YouTube videos that there is a flavor that supports English.

I was just thinking maybe it is only on specific country websites rather than the global one, if they have not got all-country localisation if it's a different product code per language. No idea.

Anyway, to me at least, for sure it seems like a useful feature, a great idea. If the TR1300A had a serial interface (it sadly doesn't : ( I'd probably consider adding voice functionality myself! : ) As it is, I use a little desktop timer close by to see the time (so I don't have to look away too much); if the hot air tool could do an announcement of the elapsed time at specific intervals that could be quite neat too, if it were possible.

There is now a youtube review in Spanish of the 861PRO, the guy says the voice commands in English.
Unfortunately in the entire review I could not see any menus, to confirm the unit was indeed 100% in English.

Now Union Repair replied to me telling the unit can be set in English language, I asked them further details.

Do you have access to an android phone?  If so, then you may be able to use the camera with google translate to read the menus in order to find and change the language setting (assuming it's not a hidden setting).

Failing that the "sure thing" is probably to order it again from a different vendor who is willing to ensure the language is set correctly.

There is no real settings menu and its not in the manual. Every setting is multi keypresses or long keypresses.
I suggested some random keys for OP to try out, but I guess they didn't work.

Basically the SMPS, ofc i know that well designed and build SMPS is nothing wrong but with Jamicon capacitors it cant last for so long.

Every piece of equipment in my service is powered by linear power supply except of digital oscilloscope, but all bench multimeters, power supplies, all other test equipment, soldering and desoldering stations all have classical power supply.

Very good to see inside that. I've not used mine for as long as you, but I too am very happy with it. I think I would have liked the serial interface but the price is too steep for that model. Other than that, no complaints from my perspective anyway, it's a pleasure to use.
