I have a old telescope mount that can be moved around fairly precisely (I use it for mounting antennas). It is beefy and I don't see why you can't put a dremel flex shaft on it. It has a electronic controller which I can program coordinates to.
If it was dampened by something heavy, can the vibrations damage the mechanical parts?
Not with a burr, but just a engraver tool (like a diamond point or stone).
The idea would be to clamp it to a drill press table and spin the part in the chuck then try to make some shapes with it.
Like, can you have a mechanical system that does heavy loads well but does not like vibrations?
I could give the z-axis a bit of travel with air pistons and adjustable valves (push pull ratio), its weird but I have the parts for some reason, it should be strong enough to move the entire base around about 1 inch
Also, can a MEMS microphone array, 3 of them, on x,y,z axis , with the hole patched up or perhaps glued to metal downwards act as vibration indicators (I have a bunch of these).
this could be really interesting if you put a motor to extend the reach of the device and bolted it under or above something on a stand so it can grind out a geometry on a big part. Like a magnetic drill, but it would be a magnetic CNC grinder thing. I wonder if it could make trumpet shapes in large objects. If it was a bit smaller you could attach it to a magnetic drill and it would be totally battery powered.
