just found this thread, as I only started a while ago playing with RX antennae for 0.1-30MHz range.
You seem to have experience with a lot of them, so either by experience, or even just an edicated guess (for me to judge whether it is worthwhile building one of those you were suggesting in this thread, with more elaborate circuitry):
What do you think of these very simple circuits?
I have built the one with 4x 1m coax as a shielded loop, and only one transistor, being able to remote-supply without any transformers.
Last weekend, there was contest activity, and even with my simplke ATS20+ (and alternate firmware by "goshante") I was receiving a lot of stuff on 80m and 40m bands, with the antenna indoor on the 2nd floor. Also with my 8 AM circuits 1955s tube radio, it gets me a lot of LW,MW,SW stations (where my DSP radio is comparably deaf on LW and MW).
I also now regularly listen to an 80m loose talking round at night of people up to 300km away, IDK how much power they use or what their antenna setups are yet.
With long wire hanging down 10 meters out the window, I mostly get QRM in comparison

I did use the lower noise BC550, if that matters any.
So I naturally wonder about circuits where people built differential amplifiers for the loop and other more complicated stuff (never mind ESD protectioon etc), how much this really improves things.

I have *not* built this one, but wonder whether to recommend it to a pal with interest in SDR but even less space than I have.
