Precision RF Meter from Heathkit
« on: June 22, 2017, 06:08:42 am »
Hi, all - I've built my share of Heathkits over time; a few of them I still have, and they still work.  Sometime in the 1990's they got out of kits entirely, and focused on education.  But they couldn't make that work either, and went out of business shortly thereafter.

A few years ago, they announced that they were back.  Their first kit was a very simple AM radio; their second was 'the worlds most reliable clock'.  Not the worlds most accurate; just the most reliable.

The retail price for these goods was perhaps 5 to 10 times what a similar product would cost at a local store, so I chose not to participate.  I already own a clock and a radio.

But they now have another offering, which may be of interest to the Hams in the group;  it's called an HM-1002 precision RF meter.  I'm not a ham, so I don't understand the meaning and usefulness of the gear.  And I'm certainly not endorsing it.  But Heathkit is very proud of it, and they speak glowingly of it.

And given how important a role Heathkit has played in ham radio over the last century, I felt it might be of interest to the people here.

Anyway, that's it.  I have now fulfilled my entire purpose in life; to breathlessly bring the news of the existence of a product that I have no clue in the universe about.  Ahem.  I shall now scurry back to the beginners page, where I belong.

Hope this is of interest - Charlie
