Agilent DSOX-2014A repair progress...
« on: December 31, 2025, 12:31:12 am »
Hi test equipment adict's,

still looking for my dream Scope on a budget, i found this one said to not power-up...

thanks to EEVblog community :-+  after checking there was no short circuit between + and - pins and to confirm the known PSU failure
i injected 12,5V 3A at PSU to motherboard connector:

and sudenly i'm owner of another to be repaired hopefully upgradable scope  :palm: :-DD

Culprit  ::)
quick look gives: Fuse blown, first mosfet shorted, tank capacitor 95uF but 1,8ohms ESR, MOV reads 410Kohms

Generally, the main filter capacitor fails due to overheating (caused by the heat generated by the four resistors on the reverse side), leading to the fuse blowing, the thermistor failing, the power MOSFET breaking down, and also damaging the 3842B chip. Occasionally, the two resistors connected to the gate of the power transistor are also damaged.

Don't fix that PSU. It's broken by design.
Find almost any 3"x5" 12V PSU with remote ON and adapt it.
There are few PSU recommendations on this forum.
In my case, I've found a PSU in my drawer, but the power button was working in reverse, so using 2 resistors and 1 mosfet(2n7000), I reversed the signal.
Don't waste your time fixing this PSU.

thanks,

there is already too much trash on the only habitable planet we have, repairing is the only way of life ;)
this PSU function good enough for Agilent so good enough for me
and now it's rebuild with quality components should last very long time... as i always cut power with a main kill switch  ;)

I used 56K 1,5W resistors instead of 22K 1W
the gate resistor 5,11ohms was open, replaced with 1% (i don't have 0,1%)
for unknown reason other resistor was 100ohms instead of usual 2k so replaced with known value one.

still missing a fuse and this PSU will be ready to go  :-+

next will be cleaning and inspecting main board, (checking hissing noise mod has been or have to be done)

then time to look at upgrading options for this scope, this seems good start to me  ;D

112#infiniivisionLauncher.exe -l MSO -l WAVEGEN --perf -l D2000BDLB -l BW20 -l SCPIPS -l PLUS -l VID -l CABLE -l ASV

Hi Phil Répartout, congratulation! I bought a DSOX2014A from the market that couldn't start due to lost NAND data. After I rewrote the image, the oscilloscope indicated that the instrument was not calibrated. I tried to perform user cal but failed. Now I suspect that the oscilloscope's factory calibration file is lost. Can you share the calibration file of your oscilloscope? Thanks!
Below is the program to read the calibration file from the oscilloscope. It's like the upgrade program, just put it in a USB drive and run it, and the calibration file will appear in the root directory of the USB drive.

Is this an official Keysight Program to dump the Cal Data of the 2000x?

Yes, this is a cautious and correct approach. The program is shared by BillCRM, and you can use 7z to extract this package, where the recipe.xml shows the main function of the program.
Code: [Select]
<install>
<!--  Set the ramdisk to 68MB  -->
<ramdiskSize>71303168</ramdiskSize>
<!--  Stop the scope application  -->
<killProcess>infiniivisionLauncher.exe</killProcess>
<killProcess>AgilentLxiWebService.exe</killProcess>
<killProcess>processStartupFolder.exe</killProcess>
<killProcess>vncServer.exe</killProcess>
<killProcess>websockify.exe</killProcess>
<!--  Custom Script  -->
<installStep>
<command>\windows\cmd.exe /c copy \Secure\cal\callog.txt \usb\callog.txt</command>
<onFailure>
<action>continue</action>
</onFailure>
</installStep>
<installStep>
<command>\windows\cmd.exe /c copy \Secure\cal\factorycal.dat \usb\factorycal.dat</command>
<onFailure>
<action>continue</action>
</onFailure>
</installStep>
<installStep>
<command>\windows\cmd.exe /c copy \Secure\cal\framecal.dat \usb\framecal.dat</command>
<onFailure>
<action>continue</action>
</onFailure>
</installStep>
<installStep>
<command>\windows\cmd.exe /c copy \Secure\cal\sernum.dat \usb\sernum.dat</command>
<onFailure>
<action>continue</action>
</onFailure>
</installStep>
<!--  Reboot  -->
<installStep>
<command>\windows\rebootInfiniivision.exe</command>
</installStep>
<boardLoadOptions>
<ECC>4</ECC>
</boardLoadOptions>
</install>

app produce
1. setup app env
2. copy cal file from your scope dir(\Secure\cal) to usb root dir
3. restart scope

Yes, that's right. I'm also looking for the calibration file for this model.

It's just a cab/ksx file that performs a copy command in Windows CE under the guise of a software update. Can you help me? It doesn't affect any functionality, license, or anything else.

You just need to extract this zip file and copy it to a USB drive, navigate to the .ksx file and load it; the computer will restart afterward. The USB drive will contain several new files named sernum.dat, factorycal.dat, etc. Package them and upload them.

And of course, you can use that file in case your machine loses its calibration data.

Sincerely,

Feng.

Hi Feng,
How would I upload the calibration files back into the scope? What is the procedure for that? I have the DSOX3014A, but before I run this program, I would like to know how to restore the calibration data in case of it's loss.

BillCRM is active in the forum which is also about DSOX 2xxx-3xxx scopes https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/dsox2000-and-3000-series-licence-have-anyone-tried-to-hack-that-scope

Files like factorycal or sernum.dat are stored in an OTP partition within the NAND.

If you change the NAND to something different from the original without unlocking it via JTAG or directly copying it using programming tools like Xgecu, etc., this partition will be corrupted.

Recreating this file is only possible when that OTP partition is waiting to be written (when you completely replace the NAND and perform a fresh operating system installation). I don't know how others have done it, but that's how I always do it.

Additionally, it helps reduce the offset if your machine hasn't been calibrated for a long time. Just copy those files to the Secure/cal folder.

Regards,

Feng.
