Any experience with cheap AD548 referance?
« on: July 20, 2016, 10:41:35 am »
Hi,

Couldn't find any previous posts on this, just wondering if anyone has tried ones of these

http://www.ebay.com/itm/DROK-AD548-Precision-Voltage-Reference-Standard-Module-2-500V-5-000V-7-50-NEW-/331874915291?hash=item4d454953db:g:bc8AAOSwuhhXVdwD

Not expecting top notch performance, but interested if anyone with accurate gear has tried it out to see if of use to the hobbyist.

Anthony

Hi

Do you mean AD584??
The AD548 is an op-amp.

Try this thread
https://www.eevblog.com/forum/metrology/are-cheap-ad584-units-worth-it/

They are looking at a different style than the one in your reference.

I built my own from a plastic DIP package AD584JN initial tolerance of +-30mV and 30ppm

Ah, I didn't notice the ebay listing had it as 548, I copied the error, thats why my search didn't find anything.

Thanks for the link, I have also found this interesting review

http://www.markhennessy.co.uk/ad584_references/

Seems there are a few units that vary a little in accuracy and the certificates are generally not worth the paper they are written on but looks like they serve a purpose for run of the mill hobby gear.

Thanks

I bought two, used a reference circuit, neither worked.  Sitting next to me here for the past few months.  Must have been static or something popped them.  Sort of made me mad.  First time that's happened where I blew two parts in a row.  Well, probably not now that I think about it...
