Bench Power Supply With Graphical Control LAN Interface
« on: January 04, 2026, 09:37:23 pm »
Hi,
do you know a power supply with two outputs or three, ~30V/~3A (each output) where can be controlled from a graphical interface (like this where keysight EDU33212A Waveform Generator has or the RTB24 Oscilloscope has), via LAN network.
The R&S NGC103 where I have has LAN connection but not graphical inviroment for control. Can be controlled only via SCPI (Standard Commands for Programmable Instruments) commands (picture "NGC103 SCPI").

"Refresh screen data"

Such known company and they don't know how to execute JavaScript code periodically? I would return such crap to the seller and make my own from scratch.

I totally agree with you. A 1700euro power supply and as you said the rest! I contact with the dealer when I discover it and told me... "like this it is!"

Does a guy have the R&S NGE103B power supply with the LAN option to send me photo if it has a graphical web interface (like the the Keysight EDU36311A power supply) or it supports only SCPI commands like the NGC103?
From the NGE103B manual picture I can't understand if it has graphical interface.
@pdenisowski (maybe you can help me)
Also in contrast to the NGC103 the NGE103B at the R&S page it writes that have LAN (LXI). What LXI means?

P.S. I call it web graphical interface... if there is another official term please tell me.

Ask claude.ai to make a basic tkinter gui for the Rigol DP832.  It would probably work first run.

I use a Envox Bench Box 3 PSU (EEZ-BB3) with two DSP405 Modules. Works with SCPI but they provide EEZ Studio to create your custom GUI https://www.envox.eu/eez-studio-docs/widget-instrument-instrumentterminal/. It's also compatible to other brands.

Since i'm not a programmer, i let claude create a script for this device https://github.com/JimKnopfIoT/EEZ-BB3-DCP405-voltage-follower. It works exactly as I wanted it to. Using claude for such tasks works surprisingly well.

BTW. they are working on a new model right now, the EEZ-BB3+. Also a modular PSU.

You can also use TestController for remote controlling a lot of different power supplies, it has a GUI for each one.

I don't think the NGE103B has a remote GUI (unless it's a recent change) - I'll check.

LXI is basically some additional rules / procedures added to Ethernet to make communication with T&M instruments easier.

There's a really nice overview here: https://www.lxistandard.org/Documents/About/LXI_2011Brochure.pdf

If you please, could you suggest to R&S to make a web remote GUI in NGE100B and NGC100 models? They are not cheap power supplies and the LAN option is very poor to support only SCPI commands and not GUI in my opinion.

I'll speak to the product manager about this and see what I can find out.  Thanks for the suggestion!

As mentioned, Test Controller can be used to have a GUI for a device which may not otherwise have one, or to do other functions such as logging, there are many device profiles already built in, (I wrote one for the Siglent SPD4000X series, and SPD1000 series), if needed you can write your own definition and create your own computer GUI.

This. I'm surprised from R&S to make a such poor LXI interface knowing their excellent interfaces for FSW or recently on MXO family.
Ok NGC100 is an entry model for R&S but still ~1500 € for the NGC103.

For people like me that don't want to use a dedicated and proprietary software to remote instrument control, LXI is a must have and future-proof.

Edit: For people asking what is LXI : To make it short and simple, LXI is simply that equipment host a web/HTTP server that you can access on any browser by its IP, it does not require any plugin and naturally works on any OS.
For the best one it's not only a remote desktop like RDP (Windows) or VNC but it recreate a web interface with scalable screen and buttons interface like R&S do on MXO scope for example with additional features, like download/upload interfaces.
