Clamp Meter Adapter for BM235?
« on: September 07, 2016, 05:23:11 pm »
I currently have a cheap $60 clamp meter, and I find the clamp feature to be very useful around the house and on automobiles. I am looking at upgrading to the BM235, but is there a way to add a clamp adapter to it or no? I have searched through the forums and videos and I mostly see DMMs being used over clamp meters. Why are clamp meters less popular?

Yes, but why do you want clamp adapter over clamp meter?

Clamp meters are generally less accurate for current measurement and as such the extra bulk the mechanism takes up and its extra cost are not wanted. Clamp meters excel where you should not, cannot, or is dangerous to break the circuit path and measure the current flow directly. Most times this will be in power distribution boxes, very high current applications like starter motor circuits in cars, or where there is no way to disconnect the current path without permanently altering the wiring.

The BM235 is a good choice but adding a current clamp to it depends on what you want to measure. I suggest it is better to have the BM235 and a separate clamp meter so you can measure current and voltage at the same time.

Is there a comparable clamp meter to the BM235 within the same price range?
