Daniel Bogdanoff Has Switches Teams
« on: January 30, 2026, 10:15:10 am »
Everyone's favorite Keysight employee Daniel Bogdanoff has jumped teams to Rohde and Schwarz as Technology Evangelist!  :scared:

He's been at Keysight since Agilent in 2012. He moved in November.
He said on X he'll still be making videos.

Hello,

The average height at R&S is likely to increase as a result.

Kind regards,

LOL because my local R&S rep is shorter than the Keysight, Tek, or LeCroy reps!

Is anyone keeping a map?

I find it a bit surprising that people in western countries would move to a Chinese company. I can't imagine them paying more. And generally most westerners aren't going to want that culture shock.
Probably ok if you're an on-the-road rep or something though.

You're totally overlooking the fact that every TE company has sometimes wholly owned branches all over the world....
There is no need to move to Shenzhen to get a good job at Siglent.

One Siglent branch GM that visited you had worked for HPAK and Rigol before taking on the GM position in his local town and to this day maintains they were the best company he'd ever worked for.....that's really saying something IHMO and aligns with my personal experience, now @13 yrs.

Oh they do.
Here in Finland Huawei has R&D. The nearby unit is more or less exactly in the middle of a large Nokia site and a large Ericsson site.
And they pay very well.
But they also have to, as it's a bit of a stain on one's CV and the Chinese top-down work culture does not mesh well with the Finnish work culture.

Speaking of Daniel. I remember him from the Keysight Scary Letter thread. Did anyone ever figure out what that was all about?  I got one of the letters but never responded to it and I never heard from them (Keysight's lawyers) again.

I'm more talking about the design side, hence why I mentioned customer type reps separately.

Ah okay, a whiteboard driver but not at the coal face.
The one that guides the engineers to come up with designs to try to challenge the competition and driven by gaining more market share.

It might seem his move was driven by frustration with HPAK and their refusal to support individuals however R&S haven't got the best record lately in this regard either.

The old adage; the customer is always right seems to be almost extinct in this day and age.  :(

I will be interesting to know if R&S poached him, or he approached them. Or was the job advertised and he simply applied?
My guess would be the former. He's a well known and respected personality in the industry, so makes sense to poach him.

Yet he got a lot of stick here on EEVblog when HPAK ceased to support individuals and felt for the many owners affected but couldn't do a darn thing about company policy.

What would any of us have done in a similar situation....look for another opportunity with another TE company.

You are highly overrating the reach of EEVblog here. It is extremely rare for me to talk to an electronics / embedded firmware engineer who knows EEVblog. Maybe 1 out of 100. Consequently somebody is not going to change careers over a minority of people whining on an internet forum (sorry Dave).

More likely R&S wanted to have somebody on board who can cover oscilloscopes and other non-RF equipment in the ever expanding portfolio of R&S. Keep in mind that TE business is a small world and IIRC Daniel is a long time buddy of some people working at R&S already.
There are small lies, big lies and then there is what is on the screen of your oscilloscope.

NZ marketplace is very different and it's understandable that some one from the northern hemisphere might not understand that.

It's obvious why he switched teams. R&S has more waveform/s now. Did he really even have a choice?

That must have been the nail in the coffin after more channels, more bits and more memory.  :-DD

The usual truth is that you get more by changing jobs and the reason why you stay at a job is convenience.

It could be anything from getting annoyed by HR policies (could be anything between office politics to switching insurance companies) to deciding to make more money or being unhappy with the direction the company is taking with the market. I sat through a few meetings that were 'close' and I thought "I am so out if we do this shit"

I would say with the doom and gloom in this presidency, that leaving to make more cash, is a pretty solid 'safety' decision.

Did anyone notice too that people are less excited about TE now too? Like in general. It's like less cool, and people don't 'love' the newer equipment, so that 'side benefit' the hard core nerds had about being associated with it has died down some what, and that means that money is on the mind for people that work on it.

I personally think it has something to do with KS (and others) trying to sell you a subscription instead of selling cool shit that works and you own as almost a investment. Lab owners don't feel like they are getting future proofing (the investment side of capital equipment purchase) because they know there is constant pressure from above to get rid of subscriptions. Actually what I see is that it could actually start to be seen as a expensive 'partial rental' liability instead of  a solid investment that can 'make you' in the future.

I see the equipment people fight over the most (i.e. who gets what in which lab when there is some re-allocation) has no freaking software used LOL (like bench SMU), and that is WHY they want it, because its like a THING that will WORK to do some thing complicated flawlessly, even if you have to mail it to some clueless person (with a procedure).

p.s. despite the usual lies you might hear, we don't like working with IT or long email chains to make things work. A project can get shot for that reason if someone figures out this will happen. I think KS thinks that the lies the B2B contact is saying are true (always painted in such a way that it makes your company look attentive, good, social, open to lots of time consuming communication, willing to cooperate between departments, track down people you don't even want to know (even in your own company) to make meetings, etc ... because its also PR at the point of B2B) , instead of knowing what actually happens. Yeah don't think people are stirring the mud as much as the face-man tells you, because we would all suffocate if we did 1/3 of those things they make you think we do. Like they have a view that the average company is like the family from "father knows best" or something, I doubt there was even one FAMILY like that, ever, let alone a freaking for profit company. :-DD

Also the return process for some KS distributors really sucks and we use broken equipment because of it. No one wants to reorder it, fill out military grade paperwork, etc. It might still get used but expect some unpleasant reminiscing when it comes to organizing future projects  ;D . I am just gonna recommend the person asking that you need to buy two because while it works in the project there is a good chance something will be bad and dealing with the return with a giant hassle, so my 'recommend' project budget will just increase and possibly make a endeavor un-economical, because I won't bullshit people for you, and believe me some people will just either buy double or drop it instead of trying to figure out how to make it work with one once they get wind that its a boondoggle, because they have a realistic feel for how their company behaves and what delays can cause a problem. I think KS counts that every 'user' will have the resources and make the effort to 'deal with the problems they are causing because KS is so awesome, but this is NOT the case, especially if there are these... obscure little problems... that are called a 'dead line' and 'understaffing' or just "being really busy".

Anyway I never blame anyone for switching jobs because the world is a chaotic place and its pretty psycho to not think about your self in the future, because no one else will, and no one but yourself can grasp the complexities of your own life to plan it..
