Fluke 87V acquisition
« on: February 16, 2026, 09:11:11 am »
Hi,
is it interesting to acquire a Fluke 87V these days (for use in general electronics - dev boards, ...)? I mean, is it still an interesting deal (around 250€ new boxed) when we know the Brymen BM869S is almost the same price new boxed? (I don't like the Brymen form factor and won't use most of its functionalities).

250 euros is a fabulous price for an 87V. I’d jump on it if the offer is legitimate.

I love the 87V, it’s my primary meter at home, alongside my bench meter.

Yes, if!
Normal prices are more like €600–€700.

I also own an EEVblog 121GW, but my Fluke 87V is my goto one in 99% of the cases.
It's not extra fancy, but it's solid and reliable, and I intend to keep using it for many years - I'm quite convinced it will outlast me.

I've had it for 10 years now, I managed to get it new, boxed, for less than 220 € in 2015 (with a bundled IR62MAX+ thermometer!), from an official distributor.
It was probably a fluke 😉 of the dealer's pricing system, but with some insistence, they honored it.

For that kind of price, I would not hesitate, though I know that better specced DMMs can be had for the money.

Thanks everyone for your input.

I pulled the trigger and ordered it for 190 € — brand new, still boxed. The owner is also throwing in a Fluke i400 AC current probe for free (not sure yet if it’s new or used, I’ll see when I pick it up).

For context, I previously owned a Fluke 87V, which I ended up giving to a family member after I bought the Brymen BM869s. While the Brymen is an excellent meter from a technical standpoint, I find it quite heavy and bulky for day-to-day use. I also realized I’m not using most of its advanced capabilities in my regular workflow.

The 87V, on the other hand, is far more practical as a handheld field meter — easier to manipulate one-handed and much more convenient to carry around in a tool bag.

Well,
I received the Fluke 87V. It's 100% new, boxed, made in USA (comes from USA market according to sticker and serial number). The seller provided the i400 AC current probe (also new).
I checked, the 9V battery is new, and there is no trace of any leak. I opened it and checked, the fuses are original ones.
Tested it quickly against a calibrated Brymen BM869s, and they match absolutely.
Going to keep it as my main DMM.
PS. Images are highly compressed JPG and doesn't render it justice, the holster and the plastics are really new (no sign of any usage).

For digit hunting, be sure to use Hi Res mode to increase the counts to 19,999 which will provide an extra digit in about half of those comparison photos.
