GM328 transistor tester MCU firmware update
« on: March 17, 2019, 08:23:59 am »
Hi,

I bought a GM328 transistor tester that can't be calibrated. It stucks at the "short probes" stage. Anyway, I decided to update the MCU firmware.

I connected the ATMega328pu to my breadboard and I double checked the connections with my DMM. The AVRdude always return the following error :

D:\temp\GM328\EN>avrdude -pm328p -cUSBasp -B4 -Pusb

avrdude: set SCK frequency to 187500 Hz
avrdude: warning: cannot set sck period. please check for usbasp firmware update.
avrdude: error: programm enable: target doesn't answer. 1
avrdude: initialization failed, rc=-1
Double check connections and try again, or use -F to override
         this check.

avrdude done.  Thank you.

I even tried to connect an external crystal but without luck. What seems to be wrong here? My OS is Win10/64Bit and AVRdude is v5.10

Regards,

An 8MHZ crystal solved the problem !!! :phew:

Also to note, the GM328 could not be calibrated because it had wrong resistors. I replaced them, and it worked like a charm.

You can do search there.

and the resistors value you mention is the right one but they need a very precise one
i hoped for tools for compiling the download version of v m1.45 and tools to use to extract makefile and hex and eep one also how to change fuses to suite my hardwre version which is not present at the hole 3700 post

Same here,

That thread is so overwhelming... Every time I try to read something, I give up after 5 minutes.

Hi,

I really don't remember anything of this. It was quite long now.

Anyway, I am not a professional electronic technician but instead, a software developer so it's not my everyday work. This is a hobby for me, working with electronics and microcontrollers.

As far as I can see from the photos I attached, I followed the connection diagram, and using avrdude I uploaded the new firmware.

Where exactly do you have a problem with this? Are you able to use AVRDude? What is your experience on the topic?

Regards,
