I have a custom 1KW adjustable/programmable constant current switching power supply  and it is becoming expensive for me to repair and maintain. It also be hacked by about a dozen people over the years and some of the part are expensive/ difficult to find. So Im trying to find a COTS supply that could do the job.
My current supply can supply .5-12 Amp at an open circuit voltage of 170VDC. It looked like this at one time http://ntrs.nasa.gov/archive/nasa/casi.ntrs.nasa.gov/19860015937.pdf
One key requirement is that it needs to be a true CC supply and not a constant voltage supply that has a CC limit. Reason being CV supplies tend to have "large" output capacitance that can supply very large surge currents. My current supply has "no" output capacitance and has a high output inductance instead.

Any recommendations?
