Another Stanford Research FS700 Loran Timing Generator !!! (4 now
)
But!! This one was under $40 on the bbay , most are over $700
Local find, so picked up and saved the shipping. Stanford research is in Sunnyvale (Silicon Valley not far from here) They must have cleared out a bunch of cobweb equipment they didn't want to bother with. This thing never got Final Assembly. No case, ROM chip was removed (have some), no OCXO (had one of those too), no cables connected EVER, LCD Protective film still in place (they gave up). Powered it up, but got ERROR! Amplifier Gain too high/low. Found someone must have poked around in the LF353 chain of RF op-amps, and blew up U105. Replaced it, thinking I might be done. WRONG!!!
After much hunting for why the CAL signal did not seem to get amplified I was led to K101 relay, and found a pin that appeared soldered, but NO!!! it was NEVER soldered properly (it's in a dark corner of the board). Up and running now after a few hours playing around with this. These work great with Rubidium signal, or GPSDO signal instead of the LORAN/OCXO.
Sorry for the poor photos.
