Measuring mains 220~240VAC transformer
« on: August 28, 2025, 10:25:21 am »
Looking for recommendations - not to blow up my Oscilloscope (which has a earth ground)

I looking ideas to measure the 220~240AC mains side and the output 12V AC (load anticipated to be 500mA~1amp)

To do some characterization of the transfer  characteristic,  harmonic content etc.

Isolation Transformer?

This is a well known problem with well known safe solutions.

See the Tektronix references at https://entertaininghacks.wordpress.com/library-2/scope-probe-reference-material/ and pay careful attention to the paragraph beginning "high voltages: loud noises followed by deathly quiet".

BTW, it is true that you can run into the road without looking - and not be killed or injured. Would you listen to someone who told you that?
There are lies, damned lies, statistics - and ADC/DAC specs.
Glider pilot's aphorism: "there is no substitute for span". Retort: "There is a substitute: skill+imagination. But you can buy span".
